My Safe Florida Home Program
Thousands of Florida homeowners will get free inspections of their houses and reports telling them how to shore them up against hurricanes through a new program that is part of an effort by state officials to deal with soaring insurance costs.
The state has begun accepting applications for the program and within hours more than 3,500 already had applied online for an inspector to come to their homes to assess their hurricane weaknesses. State officials said Lee County will be one of the first counties where the inspections are conducted.
